The detail I will focus on is the overall circulation of the site. I will cover the approach to the airport, through the flight.
To provide access to the airport from Washington D.C., a 14 mile toll road was built that connected to the existing freeway system. As you approach the airport, the terminal becomes visible in the distance. The view of the airport is temporarily interrupted as you pass behind a hill that was built on the site. On your right is a pond where the storm water drains. When the terminal reappears, you drive past the front of the terminal, and loop back to the front entrance. The flow of this drive fits well with the sculptural building.
After entering the terminal, you are only yards from the ticketing booths. You check your baggage, and head to the other side of the ticketing counter to wait for your Mobile Lounge. That is the extent of your walking. Maybe you grab a snack or a paper and wait for your flight. When it is time, a Mobile Lounge takes you to your airplane, and your flight soon takes off.
