The creation of the Mobile Lounges provides many performance benefits. The lounges protect passengers from the climate on the way to their airplanes. The lounges also allow the actual built space to be significantly reduced, therefore eliminating maintenance and upkeep costs associated with the extra space. The lounges keep the airplanes away from the terminal, making the terminal quieter as well as keeping the jet fumes some distance from the terminal. Passengers do not have to walk as far as passengers in typical airports (this was an architectural intention).
The leaning columns that hold the roof help counter the inward pull of the roof. They also serve as protective overhangs for passengers arriving at the airport, one of the architectural intentions.
